If you are looking to improve the air quality of your home, the ducted heating system is where you should focus your attention. If your air ducts are dirty and filled with allergens, the pollutants will be re-circulated back into the air. The only way to ensure that the air within your home is free of allergens and high amounts of dirt or mould is to make sure that your ducted heating system is properly cleaned. Before you begin cleaning the air ducts within your home, it is important for you to be aware of the most helpful tips that are designed to make the process simpler.

Filter

It is always important to begin with the air filter of your ducted heating unit. Not only do you need to make sure that have a good quality filter, but it should also be changed periodically. It is best to change your air filter at least once throughout the year. It is suggested that you change the filter before the winter season sets in when you will be relying on the ducted heating system heavily.

Grates

It is also possible to take off the vent grates from the ducted heating system. In most cases, you will need to use a screwdriver in order to lift the vent grates free. Once the vent grates are removed, you can clean them using a cleaning solution that is mild. Mild detergent is the best option to choose and you can mix it with water to wipe down the vent grates completely clean. Just make sure that you give them time to dry fully before they are reattached to the ducted heating installation.

Vacuum

In order to remove the debris from within the ducts, it is best to use your vacuum and the accessory tools that it is equipped with. Using the vacuum cleaner attachment, you need to focus a lot of your attention when you are cleaning on the ductwork walls. This is where most of the dirt and debris will be present and these are the areas that are only possible to reach with a vacuum attachment.

If there are filters that line the walls of the ductwork, you will need to use a brush and a rag to wipe the debris off instead of a vacuum. The suction on the vacuum attachment might be too strong if filters are present on the walls of the ductwork. This means that you need to evaluate the walls before you choose a cleaning method.
